Watermelon Banana Smoothie
It’s that time of year for ice cold drinks and refreshing smoothies to keep us cool in the summer heat. I absolutely love this time of year, being a water baby at heart, I nab every chance to take a swim in the ocean!
It’s my favorite thing to do in the summer, especially with longer days, evening dips are the best way to end a day. With that being said, this Watermelon Banana Smoothie is the perfect recipe for a refreshing drink, pre or post swim!
I read such an interesting post the other day about the harmful effects of chlorine in swimming pools on our microbiome, and it totally resonated with me.
Toxins
I have visited our public pool in Nelson a few times to do a few lengths and get the blood flowing, however I always feel affected by the immense amount of chlorine (and other chemicals) in that pool. So much so that I often head straight for the beach for another swim to cleanse me of the chemicals.
The Whole Daily explained that this is because they (chlorine + bromine) kill beneficial bacteria in the gut and on the skin. 80-90% of serotonin (a feel-good neuro-transmitter) is manufactured in the gut. + because the skin is permeable (things βget throughβ), it means that we get hit from the inside out + the outside in.β£
One way to ease the effect of chlorine on your body is Vitamin C. Watermelon is super high in this particular vitamin, hence this recipe being a great post chlorine swim energy booster and body healer.
I used my Omniblend to create this delicious smoothie, which is a fantastic high speed blender if you’re ever in the market!
