Yellow Split Pea Dahl
What better way to ease into Winter, than with a delicious warm bowl of comforting dahl. With the blend of spices, creaminess of the coconut milk and wholesome brown rice, this Yellow Split Pea Dahl dish is the perfect way to warm you up from inside.
Nourishing, easy to digest and flavorsome, it’s most certainly a great option for these chilly days we’ve been having.
I tend to make a big batch and have it for days after with absolutely no objection – just pure food bliss. It freezes well too, which is great when you’re pressed for time or just can’t be bothered to cook. Let’s be honest – we all have days like that.
After recently completing a juice cleanse, I’ve evoked mindful eating patterns more so than ever, and have had a mild realization on how much food actually affects us. The food we eat, becomes the blood that flows through our veins, and subsequently becomes who we are.
Nearly everything in our bodies is replaced and renewed and these processes are fueled by the food and liquids we put in our mouths. So, you see, food actually plays a huge role in our overall health and well being.
It’s very easy to get caught in a pattern or routine of eating, which I find can greatly dull the mindful connection that we should have with food. I am one to this claim, and I feel I have slightly gone off the beaten path but after feeling such clarity after my juice cleanse, it’s obvious to me what needs to change. It truly is amazing how things become so clear when you cleanse and allow your system to reset.
Eat a little less. Move more. Drink more water. Focus on alkalizing your system with fresh green vegetables and green vegetable juices. The amount of energy I get when I do this is insane! I sleep deep and well, and wake up energized and refreshed and don’t even consider the snooze button. Give it a go, see how you feel? You’ve got nothing to loose, but so much to gain.
So you see my friends, fueling yourself with whole, natural, un-processed foods full of prana can have such a wonderful effect on your life. Alkalizing foods, like this delicious dahl dish are so cleansing and nourishing to the body. By eating foods rich in beneficial nutrients, you can give your body a hand in cleansing.
Your body know’s what to do – it knows how to heal and cleanse – it is brilliant. But by simply making the acidic load a little less and bathing your organs in alkalizing goodness, can help your body do it’s job so much better. Leaving you feeling refreshed, renewed and full of clarity and energy.
So start your day with a green juice, add some lemon juice to your water during the day, make a warm bowl of dahl and see if simple alkalizing additions like these to your day take effect – because they sure do for me.
This recipe is warming and nourishing. It is easy to make and relatively inexpensive. It is alkalizing and completely plant based vegan. It is flavoursome and quite ‘moreish’. It it perfect for Winter and leftovers are great the next day. Do I need to convince you any further?

Hello Taryn,
Your story is full of courage and happiness, and I’d like to say Bravo!! It’s so easy to fall into self-pity and be gloomy when a difficulty jumps at us. You came out of that hospital with courage and a new look on life which is terrific.
I’ve made this recipe and enjoyed it immensely, including the people who also tasted it. Now I’m making it for the second time and would like to ask your permission to pass the recipe on…
Keep up this good work and I’ll be trying your other recipes as well.
God bless,
