I set myself a challenge with this recipe. That challenge was to create something delicious out of the ingredients I already had. No additional purchases. Just make do with what I had in the kitchen.
So, with inspiration and creativity flowing, this Beetroot Coconut Ice Recipe was created. My hope is that you also have similar ingredients in your kitchen to create this recipe, and if not, then to use your imagination and have fun creating something with what you have already.
My mentality and drive behind this recipe, was being so grateful that I actually have all the ingredients I need to create something nutritious and delicious. Being grateful that I just need to turn to my kitchen to find what I need to use my imagination and creative juices to make something yum. Continue reading
Is it just me, or is there something so incredibly exciting about new health and wellness products?
I walk through the isles of our local Fresh Choice store and am always enticed when I discover a new product on the shelves. Recently there’s been a few popping up and I especially got excited about the launch of CHIA’s new range of gorgeous drinks. Just in time for summer, the lovely CHIA team have release 4 new flavors of their ever popular CHIA range.
As you all know, I am super keen on supporting local businesses, and CHIA is definitely one of them! CHIA is a Nelson based company that is all “about adventure and the outdoors, good food, and living a balanced sustainable lifestyle.”
“In creating CHIA, we wanted to share something of nutritional value for sustained energy and well being. CHIA started as an endurance drink for athletes, but we soon realized that everyone can do with a nutritional boost.” Source Continue reading
Coffee! One of the most popular drinks in the world. Most cannot start a day without it. When I’m out and about I tend to drink decaf, however a shot of caffeine every now and then is okay. I can definitely feel the effects of caffeine, maybe as I’ve become more sensitive to it.
To be honest, I never really feel that great after having a coffee – be it decaf or regular, yet in the moment it always seems like a good idea.
Recently I’ve been cutting out soy from my diet, so I’ve been having my decaf cappi’s with almond milk, which is pretty tasty! Although I still feel rather flat after drinking one, so I don’t have them too regularly.
But here, in this Chocolate Espresso No Bake Brownie recipe, I decided to use full caffeine coffee for the intense flavor. That, and the fact that Nick’s coffee machine makes a pretty darn good espresso! 🙂 Continue reading
I have been dying to get a waffle maker for ages now, and it finally happened! So you can guess who’s recently been having waffles galore! It’s so nice to experiment and try foods that you wouldn’t normally eat. Though of course these still fall between the lines of being gluten free, refined sugar free, healthy and vegan.
Experimenting and creating different dishes, trying new ingredients, and really just having fun with your food can be so rewarding, especially if you know that the food you’re eating is doing your body a whole lot of good (as well as your mind 😉 ) Continue reading
With the apparent abundance of lemons this time of year, I’ve been incorporating as much lemon into my diet as possible. Whether it be squeezed freshly over a salad, or juiced and frozen into ice blocks for a refreshing glass of sparkling water. It hasn’t been difficult because I love lemons, and use them so regularly. They’re amazingly good for you, as I’ll discuss a little later on.
So, while searching for inspiration, this Lemon Poppy Seed Muffin recipe was created, and I incorporated the ever so delicious Vanilla Cashew Glaze. This creamy sweet concoction paired so well with the zesty lemon muffins ending in a recipe success. Continue reading
Cruciferous vegetables boast a huge amount of anti-cancer properties, which include removing carcinogens from your body, inhibiting cancer cells from growing, and even forcing the cancer cells to die. These points alone are perfect reasons to include as many cruciferous vegetables in your diet as possible.
“But how, Taryn?” you ask. Well I’ll tell you! Forget about the sloppy, boiled, green mush our grandparents and parents used to make us. Let me introduce you to my special Buckwheat Broccoli Fritters. Continue reading

Now, I never quite realized how many delicious options there are when making a healthy refined sugar free treat. The internet has exploded with Instagram pictures that’ll make you literally salivate and that’s just the brunt of it!
The amount of creative deliciousness that’s out there is astounding, and this inspires me to no end! Continue reading
I don’t know where you are in the world right now, but it’s getting pretty chilly where I am! Winter is most certainly evident in Nelson, and the snow capped mountains in the distance, that greet me every morning, are a sure sign that the seasons have changed and colder times are on the way!
And along with the chilly mornings and darker afternoons, come the subtle effects or ‘symptoms’ of the changing seasons. May it be a snuffled nose, a sneeze, a cold or the flu, winter likes to let us know it’s here! So I’ve created these Turmeric Ginger Slices that will not only boost your immune system to harp you from getting these symptoms, but will make it super easy and quick to stopping them in their tracks! Although Winter is inevitably on it’s way, and actually should be here already, I thought it a good idea to squeeze out one last salad recipe. A ‘farewell to Summer’ recipe as you may, and this one is yummy and experiments with different taste combinations.
The subtle, dry aroma and a slightly minty flavor of the Thyme, blends quite beautifully with the attractive sweet flavour of the pineapple. It’s an odd combination, but it works! and this Rice Noodle Salad with Pineapple Thyme dressing proves that! Continue reading
There’s nothing quite like sinking your teeth into a moist, rich and decadent chocolate brownie! With the subtle texture of crushed walnuts to add the explosion of your senses, this recipe for Chocolate Walnut Brownies is sure to inspire you to pull up your sleeves, get busy in the kitchen and create these squares of complete awesomeness as soon as possible!
