I’ve seen loads of blog posts on this topic and have watched a few Youtube videos too, and they always tend to inspire me and spark ideas, so I thought it’s definitely time for me to share what my nourishment looks like in a day.
It’s always so interesting to see what other people eat, when they eat, and how much they eat. Interesting to me that is! And I also find inspiration in the creativity of the food that people eat.
Food is so personal. It can tell a story. It can tell you about a persons culture, what they were craving, what they enjoy. So intimate! Food sustains us and nourishes not only our bodies, but our minds. It reminds us of people, places and spaces in time, shaping our memories and our cultural heritage. It’s a form of personal expression, and helps bring people together. Continue reading
Hope you’re all easing into the New Year well. It’s been beautiful weather here in Nelson. The sun’s been shining brightly these last couple days and the cool, refreshing breeze has been a breath of fresh air. I love this time of year, so much! I love getting out on the weekends, going on unknown adventures, and being immersed in nature. The sun kissed glow to the skin is always welcomed.
We met up with a gorgeous friend at the Nelson Saturday Market on the weekend (which was fab), and I stumbled across some deliciously fresh hazelnuts which I just had to have. Now, I must admit, I may have a mild obsession with this particular nut. From hazelnut butter to toasted hazelnuts, to hazelnuts staring in delicious recipes – like this Chocolate Hazelnut Smoothie, I love love love them! Continue reading
Recently I’ve been reflecting on this blog, and analyzing how it makes me feel. I absolutely love sharing health and wellness content with my growing community. It inspires me to no end, and I feel such a sense of gratitude that I am able to.
Wellness with Taryn has become such a special part of my life, and there is so much more juicy stuff to come. Today I’d like to share with you this delicious Purple Protein Smoothie Bowl recipe which I’m sure you’re going to love!
All the recipes and foods that I create come from a place of love. Love for my body, love for health and love for this earth.
With Summer weather making more and more of an appearance, and temperatures rising, I thought it a great idea to post a smoothie recipe. This time of year I feel more inclined to eat less dense heavy foods, and rather opt for salads, steamed greens and smoothies. It’s great to feel light and energized, especially when it’s hot outside.
A regular query, which I’m sure most plant based eaters can relate with, is “Where do you get all your protein from if you don’t eat meat?” And what most don’t understand is that there is an abundance of protein in plants, seeds, grains, etc. All you need is a little education on what to combine in order to get a complete protein profile. When that fails, there’s always the option of a protein powder as a supplement. Continue reading
Rolling on from my post last week, where I shared a neat Infographic explaining some of the nutritional health benefits of popular culinary herbs, this week I decided to add a little bit of mint to my diet. I don’t often use mint to be perfectly honest, mainly because I seem to forget about it. Does that ever happen to you with certain foods? You’ll forget about them for ages and then one day realize ‘Oh yeah! I forgot about that! I haven’t had that in ages!’
Anyway, I spotted some fresh mint in store and it quickly found it’s way into my shopping basket.
As we all know by now, avocados are one of the most delicious additions to any healthy diet. From smashed avo toast, to toppings on a colorful salad, or sneakily the main ingredient in chocolate mousse, this fruit has grown immensely in popularity over the last couple of years.
But it’s the inner seed or ‘pit’ that seems to be getting more and more recognition lately for it’s surprisingly huge nutritional benefits. As if the creamy, smooth and delectable fruit wasn’t good enough, it’s center seed is actually a powerhouse of antioxidants all on it’s own. That’s where this Super Antioxidant Avocado Seed Smoothie comes into the limelight. Continue reading
I love smoothies! They’re so quick, easy and I love the fact that you can add whatever you want to create a delicious meal/snack! This tropical spirulina smoothie recipe is definitely a winner! I’ve experimented with quite a few flavor combinations over the years, from decadent chocolate smoothies to vibrant green smoothies to earthy beetroot concoctions. It’s amazing how many combinations you can create, with just a handful of ingredients.
One of the many things I love about starting our new life in New Zealand, is discovering all the new foods, like the Feijoa fruit. They are an evergreen, perennial shrub that is typically grown as a fruiting tree. You can spot them in many people’s gardens here in Nelson, New Zealand. So I managed to get a bag of them, and before they turned I decided to freeze them. I added them in a smoothie and created this delicious concoction.
The feijoa fruit are oval in shape and roughly 80mm long and a dull green color. The skin is thin and in the middle is a mass of translucent jelly-like pulp with small soft seeds. Continue reading
I absolutely love how versatile frozen berries are. They’re a must in every health conscious person’s freezer, as you can whip them into something delicious, in a short space of time.
For me, I love how they transform a regular chocolate smoothie into a drink bursting with flavor.
This smoothie is a quick and delicious treat, as a mid-morning or afternoon snack to raise energy levels, and to satisfy a sweet tooth.
