My sweetpea, Nick, loves loves loves pancakes! So, these holidays he’s been spoilt with pancakes for breakfast. And while I haven’t yet managed to get him to try out my yummy healthy pancakes, it’s still great to treat us both to yummy pancakes!
These scrumptious buckwheat banana pancakes are so easy to make (I mean, what pancake recipe isn’t easy to make 😉 ? ) and are incredibly good for you! So much flavor and definitely fill the fasting gap! I found them quite fulling too, and wasn’t hungry for ages after eating them! They really did fuel me for quite a while! Continue reading
As we all wind down into the festive season, and get prepared for Christmas and family festivities, I know there are a fair few of you who are racking your brains for Christmas meals. With the majority of everyone having minimal time for error in the kitchen, this quick and easy Sticky Date and Orange pudding (with the most delicious vanilla cashew custard) is definitely one to keep in mind. I love smoothies! They’re so quick, easy and I love the fact that you can add whatever you want to create a delicious meal/snack! This tropical spirulina smoothie recipe is definitely a winner! I’ve experimented with quite a few flavor combinations over the years, from decadent chocolate smoothies to vibrant green smoothies to earthy beetroot concoctions. It’s amazing how many combinations you can create, with just a handful of ingredients.
Although we’re enveloped in this gorgeous sunny weather, it still can get a bit chilly in the early hours of the morning. There’s nothing better than a warm bowl of nourishing porridge to start the day with, warming the tum and giving you the sustained energy you need to do all the things you need to do before midday. This Apple Cinnamon Quinoa porridge will do just that! Fill you up and keep you going until your mid-morning snack, or even lunch! It consists of a handful of ingredients, and only takes a couple of minutes to make, which is a perfect combination for me! Continue reading
As I write this post, I’m finishing off a cup of delicious hot cinnamon spiced tea, that I have recently fallen in love with. I picked some up from The Hollow, Nelson and it’s this tea blend that I used in these cinnamon spiced muffin cookies. The tea has a very strong aroma of cinnamon, spices and cloves. I love this tea for a treat, as it is naturally very sweet, however I’ve found that the cinnamon sorts out any blood sugar fluctuations. Once a pot of this is brewing, you can’t resist scoffing on some sort of delicious treat, and that’s where these ‘muffin cookies’ shine! Continue reading
I’ve been craving banana bread for quite some time now. I absolutely love it!!! I actually don’t know why it’s taken me so long to make some, but I found some inspiration, and this recipe was born. I wanted to boost the nutritional value of the loaf so, using a zucchini I had already in the fridge, I grated it and added it in. The great thing is that it really doesn’t alter the taste whatsoever. Adding vegetables into baked goodies is a great way to sneak those veggies into those fussy eaters diets 😉 Continue reading
I love everything coconut. From coconut oil to coconut water to freshly cracked whole coconuts! I’m Loco for Coco!!! These delicious Coco-Choc Bounty Tarts have to be one of my favorite recipes! They are so decadent, and the combination of chocolate and coconut is insanely scrumptious! With the added sweet nutty base, these tarts are like the average bounty bars (minus the bad stuff, loaded with good stuff) and taken to a whole other level!
Our lives are busy, and without even realizing it, they are super fast paced. Think about it – where the hell did July go?? In a blink it was gone! So, time fly’s by so quickly, we really need to try and make the most of every moment. The best way to do this is to have high energy levels, so that we have the ability to live our lives to the fullest. I believe that diet and lifestyle play a huge role in sustained energy, and this recipe is definitely one to get those energy levels up (and keep them there) when you need it.
One of the massive things I’ve noticed since I changed my diet and my lifestyle is the huge increase in sustained energy levels. Now don’t get me wrong, we all have ‘those’ kind of days where we can’t be arsed to do anything. Be it hormones or whatever, at the end of the day we are all human. Despite this, my energy levels have been awesome! Continue reading
Breakfast has to be one of my favorite meals of the day! And I’ll admit, I am such a creature of habit, and tend to have a handful of breakfast recipes which I juggle and alternate from. Obviously making them each unique with various different toppings, or what ever is in hands reach in the cupboard. Now, in South Africa I used to frequently buy gluten (wheat) free oats, but am battling to find them here in Nelson. I don’t have a gluten sensitivity, but I choose not to eat gluten containing foods often as I know the health implications. That being said my diet is pretty much gluten free, aside from oats (organic) every now and then. This breakfast oats recipe is one of my all time favorites!!!
