I’ll never forget our car journeys from our farm home in the Dargle, KZN South Africa to our schools in Howick, 45km away, and back again in the afternoons. Potting along the dusty dirt road in my mums cobalt blue little Ford Laser. I would always be ravenous by the time we got home after a long tiring day of school. My go to snack before dinner was predominantly peanut butter toast and jam. The highly processed florescent purple jam that came in a tin and was sweet as pure glucose! (*Insert yuk face here*) It was called Hugo’s if I remember correctly. Aaahhh adolescent bad food choices, how things have changed! Now this chia jam recipe is a totally different story!
Anyway, in my current nostalgic faze, I’ve been sifting through old childhood memories and finding inspiration in the foods that I used to eat. Finding ways in which I can replicate them by using wholesome nourishing and healthy ingredients. This Grape and Apple Chia Jam recipe is a product of that inspiration and I really am so happy with how it turned out. Continue reading
Many of us will be busy with showing our love and appreciation
towards our other halves this month, and I thought what better time to also focus on our own personal self-love
. Adding some self love in the form of good nutrition, like with these Apple Pecan Spelt Pastry Pies
, can not only make our bodies happy, they also make us feel good.
Many of us tend to forget that we ourselves deserve endless amounts of self-love, to feel connected, to be grateful and to feel happy and alive. When you’re sending positive beautiful loving energy to your self, magic happens. And when you’re feeling down or sad, it’s amazing how quickly a little self love and correct thinking can change your whole attitude and mood.
Although we’re enveloped in this gorgeous sunny weather, it still can get a bit chilly in the early hours of the morning. There’s nothing better than a warm bowl of nourishing porridge to start the day with, warming the tum and giving you the sustained energy you need to do all the things you need to do before midday. This Apple Cinnamon Quinoa porridge will do just that! Fill you up and keep you going until your mid-morning snack, or even lunch! It consists of a handful of ingredients, and only takes a couple of minutes to make, which is a perfect combination for me! Continue reading
It has been getting rather chilly here in Nelson, New Zealand. Growing up on a farm way out in the Dargle, South Africa, you’d think the cold would have little affect on me. I suppose I’m just a little bit of a wimp these days, brrrrrrr!!!!! Warm baths, comfy PJ’s and lots of cuddles definitely help, but so does a delicious warming meal followed by and even better warming and satisfying healthy dessert. What better way to end of a chilly evening, with a bowl of this delicious apple and sunflower seed crumble!
Apple and cinnamon are a flavor match made in heaven! The tart sweetness of the apple compliments the intense aromatics of the cinnamon, leaving a sensation of a warm winters sun dancing on the taste buds. Ha! Continue reading
This recipe is just a slightly updated recipe to my previous Homemade Muesli recipe, which you can find here. I think breakfast has to be one of my favorite meals of the day. I always look forward to it, and this breakfast granola is one of the best!
This recipe has similar ingredients, but with a few tweaked additions. Firstly I added a bunch of fresh grated ginger, which lifts the flavor to high heights. I love the taste of ginger, especially when it’s mixed with cinnamon. Ginger is such a great digestion aid, so it’s perfect to get this in your belly at the beginning of the day. Continue reading
