Antioxidant Green Tea Porridge

I must admit, I was a bit apprehensive about this recipe, and how it would turn out. The thought of combining green tea with porridge did seem rather strange, but my curiosity got the better of me and I’m so glad it did. I was so lucky enough to receive this Repower Green Tea from Artemis, and that was it! Inspiration levels were high and the ball began rolling in the direction of a recipe success!

I’ve loved green tea from the first time I tasted it, and I believe it really helped to boost my metabolism and curb my taste buds when I initially started my health journey. It would be my go to drink wherever we were. A substitute that would be my crutch, contributing to my health at the same time. This Antioxidant Green Tea Porridge recipe brought back all those memories, and reminded me of how strong willed I was. Chocolate Banana Pancakes

Mornings have to be one of my favorite times of the day, especially when they involve pancakes! For the majority of the time, I tend to have easy stuff for breakfast, like smoothies, smoothie bowls, porridge or granola/muesli, but occasionally I’ll sneak in a “treat breakfast”, and recently it was these tasty Chocolate Banana Pancakes.

I’ve seen loads of blog posts on this topic and have watched a few Youtube videos too, and they always tend to inspire me and spark ideas, so I thought it’s definitely time for me to share what my nourishment looks like in a day. 

It’s always so interesting to see what other people eat, when they eat, and how much they eat. Interesting to me that is! And I also find inspiration in the creativity of the food that people eat.

Food is so personal. It can tell a story. It can tell you about a persons culture, what they were craving, what they enjoy. So intimate! Food sustains us and nourishes not only our bodies, but our minds. It reminds us of people, places and spaces in time, shaping our memories and our cultural heritage. Vegan Tofu Scramble

Copy of Recipes (2)Well! I’ll start this blog off by saying it’s been a rather intense week! While I’m super excited to share this Vegan Tofu Scramble recipe with you, I’ll give you my brief summary of my experience of the recent earthquake/s.

If you haven’t heard already, New Zealand had a 7.8 Earthquake at a little past 12am early Monday morning. I awoke abruptly to Nick shaking me and instantly I knew what was going on. The earth was moving. Our whole house was shaking, and so vigorously that the water in the toilet was loudly swishing from side to side. Instant panic mode!

My first instinct was to run outside, yet in my fumbled orientation, I actually didn’t know what to do. And then the electricity went out, all was black, frightening! We experienced one last real jolt, and then it simmered down. We later learnt that the quake went on for around 2mins, which is a freaking long time when you’re in a situation like that.  Continue reading

Protein Berry Smoothie

This time of year I feel more inclined to eat less dense heavy foods, and rather opt for salads, steamed greens and smoothies. It’s great to feel light and energized, especially when it’s hot outside. 

A regular query, which I’m sure most plant based eaters can relate with, is “Where do you get all your protein from if you don’t eat meat?” And what most don’t understand is that there is an abundance of protein in plants, seeds, grains, etc. All you need is a little education on what to combine in order to get a complete protein profile. It’s so nice to experiment and try foods that you wouldn’t normally eat. Though of course these still fall between the lines of being gluten free, refined sugar free, healthy and vegan.

Detoxifying Green Juice

Copy of Recipes (3)Yay! Spring has sprung! And while I really did enjoy this Winter, I cannot wait for longer days, afternoon beach walks, refreshing salads and less washing! I don’t know if you can relate, but our washing load doubles in the winter, so I’m very much looking forward to wearing (and washing) less clothing. Another thing I’m craving is to be barefoot more. To feel the earth beneath my feet, without my toes freezing off! Can’t wait! 

To toast the beginning of Spring, I decided to make a Detoxifying Green Juice recipe to begin the new season with a clean fresh start. It’s always a good time to reflect, reset and restart. After a cosy Winter, Spring (for me) is a time for increased activity and energy and what better way to achieve that then by feeling your best. I find detoxes so clarifying, and although difficult, I do feel amazing after them and I know I’ve done such good for my body. Continue reading
